It's been a while huh. I think we're at three months now inbetween posts. I've beem busy with a part time job, an internship, gaming on my off time and the YugiOh Reanimate project. A lot of people who made a shot or some have made videos that showcase what they made, and compare it to the original. All of my shots however. Are a second long. Look at that! No pressing play, or anything necessary. These are all the shots, and the deadline, last I checked. Was the 30th of this month. I don't know when the collab will be out, but you'll definitly hear from me when it is!
Maybe I should do this with all my animations...

Tom Taylorson of Mass Effect Androemeda voiced that character from my Capstone?? I think it's cool. I've been thinking of getting into animating with Photoshop, since Alex Grigg apparently did, and made a cartoon bit on CN. So that was my first real recent attempt. I'm happy about the first transition, but the second isn't all that great. I drew that second pose just to follow the first, but the second was drawn for posing-sake. Something to note; draw poses that are awesome, and then have the betweens be the after thought. His shot was like the second one I believe? I'm going to look further into the Photoshop process. I like the freedom Photoshop gives with lines and all that.
Still interning, still working. I guess I broke the pattern of updating the blog here every month. But only by another month, so it isn't that bad. Yugioh Reanimate should be done.... May maybe? By the end of this year at least, not too sure, only a few shots left there. Don't know if I'll be animating more myself, been more busy.
Right now I am working both at an internship and as a barista part-time, so I guess that's why I've been pretty busy. As long as I'm working on video man. Gotta keep going and eventually find your place.
I'm the best! (Toad impression) Along with the whole YGO reanimate project, and some other side things I don't want to discuss, I DO want to mention that my voice will be featured in an upcoming Mario animated bit on Youtube. The creator of this video, and other ones with similar style, will have me voicing the lovable, mushroom man Toad, for a surprise (?) video coming out soon. Soon might be two months though, but I am still pretty excited about it. I've known the man behind these Mario shorts for a while, and am happy to collab with him. And like I said, it'll be a while, but I'm still pretty excited. Oddly enough, it'll probably be out around the same time the YGO thing is out, just out of pure coincidence. How about that? The YGO project could still use animators for the project, if you're interested. http://ygoreanimate.tumblr.com/ Also I have my own domain now. Isn't that cool? For a while I've been struggling with finding a program I could easily draw with. I like the curves and smoothing flash does, but there's no flexibilty with brush size. Photoshop has brush size but no smoothing as far as I knew. Illustrator isn't all that free-draw friendly, and Toon Boom has a strange set for the brush look (essentials at least). While in a 3-D class i took for the sake of review, I saw an amazing looking animation, and heard it was Clip Studio Paint. A few days later there was a 63% off sale. What luck! I'm not sure if I will be focusing on digital paint, or what exactly my next focus will be, but if I ever plan on doing a digital drawing, Clip Studio Paint is what I'm using. They even have cool backgrounds!
This program is more so for manga artists it seems, but I like flexibilty in my drawings, and I do draw from time to time. I just wouldn't as much because of frustration with the way lines would look. Again, depending on what I focus on, we might see more... My hair's not that spiky. If you're gonna do a cartoon, you gotta exaggerate!
Evening everyone. It surprises me time and time again when my mind wanders into thinking about posting here, and how it always tends to be about a month since the last one. Is it an internal clock of sorts? A force of habit? Who knows.
The daily 3-D post slowly became a every 2 days, and then longer, as my attention streached from a piece every now and then to working on a project for a 3-D class. As a result I have finished a small 3-D short, the video you see above. Just some interacting in the desk, making a shape come alive. It's posted on the 3-D tab as well. I now have an un-ani-related part time job, so my animation efforts will be limited to projects, random fancies I might have (hey you never know [Clip Studio Paint I'm looking at you]) and applying to career based things while I make some money on the side. I held off on non-ani-related working for a while because I wanted to focus on applying to ani jobs and improving my portfolio. However, I feel as though I hit a wall and won't necessarily get better without more experience, and that comes from applying and your own projects. Also since I've got a handle on the cover letter/resume writing I can now do both without feeling I'm neglecting one or the other. And I need money, man. Money, money, money. Finished my YGO reanimate shots, so I'm on the list! Check it out! http://ygoreanimate.tumblr.com/participants It's possible that I might do more, if I feel like I have the time and energy. At this point they only need more second-length shots, but still, being a part of a group effort is a great thing! And the ol' Overwatch of course. All work and no play... Jump for joy! We made it past the elections!
What have I been up to? Well, As I said before I have been practicing Cinema 4D, posting things while I make them. All of that can be seen in my new 3-D tab somewhere above. I'm hoping to eventually make enough to create a 3-D reel of sorts, which I've never had myself. That aside, I've been putting a lot of effort in going to networking events when I can. I feel as though it's something everyone should be doing, trying to get your name out there. Sure, you might make a few mistakes at first, but those mistakes are what you learn from and grow. So make mistakes and grow! (go!) I'm also still a part of the YGO reanimate project, hoping I can tackle a few more shots to be able to say I did 3 or so for the project. Another way to get your name out there. If there are spots left and you want to do something, see if you can yourself . A bit out of the ordinary, for my History of Design class that I decided to take to keep myself busy, I will be creating something to hold all my work in cards per chapter, and I think in the end it'll look like modern art of sorts. I never thought I'd be making a piece like that. Honestly, it's basically just me super-gluing some things together, but I still think it's cool, and might end up posting it here, who knows.
Afternoon everyone! Trying to stick to the monthly update, just letting people know what I've been up to.
Although I originally intended on working on the Game Grumps animated a month ago, I thought of a smaller, quicker project that I could do with little audio. Thus thePokemon Go animation! I also served as an extra for a Halloween short film, and even started seriously learning Cinema 4D. There's a big Cinema 4D scene in Chicago that I want to be a part of. I tried doing inktober but got sick 4 days in :(. I know I often hop from area of focus to area of focus, but seeing as how big Cinema 4D is in Chicago, and with Greyscale gorilla tutorials being suggested by people I've met at creative socials, I think it's worth giving a shot. I will be attempting to complete one video tutorial every day. THe one above was yesterdays. They wil all be featured in my 3D tab . And if you havn't seen it, I also made a 3-D vid for an intro of mine of some sort. Bubble Bros Productions from Danny on Vimeo.
Other then that, also a part of a Yu-gi-Oh collab. A very minor part, but I'm happy to be a part of something regardless. Should be out January.
And uh, Overwatch! Happy Halloween!
'Ello all.
I guess a monthly update is what's going on here. Never planned it that way, but hey. I also like the notion of creating a graphic/gif per submission. I'll keep doing that too. Even though I have taken 3-D classes in the past, I have forgotten most of the basics I learned then, as the computer at the time couldn't handle Maya. So right now I'm taking a class to re-introduce myself to 3-D, as well as a design related class. Gotta expand the skill set. And we all know how popular 3-D has been lately. I vouched for my green screen skills for a potential opportunity, but lost the footage of me in the Matrix forever ago. So I made a new green screen video. Just a quickie. Civil War Green Screen from Danny on Vimeo.
I might make more shorts in the future with the Kevin Hart/ Ice Cube green screen, there were a lot of emotes they did that aren't shown here. Potential fun.
The gif above is for a possible Game Grumps animated I was thinkin' of doing. It's already got the sound and storyboarded, so it's a matter of linework and in betweens, and the natural coloring process. This is the closest I've been to completeing a project in a while, so chances are it'll be done. Maybe within a month? It might be a bit much for the general public, but at the very least I'll post a version without the audio to show off more animation. What a game. Gurren Lagann meets Kirby. And some Megaman X I guess since it came first but still. The music, the feel, the classic twist, I've been into this game for a while and It's definitely got a place in my heart. I even did one of those silly video edits because why not. I even made a cover for it, haha *Spoilers btw* I just now realized that video games are just as much an inspiration/aspiration as cartoons were to get into drawing/ani, ever since I was a kid. When I was a teeny tiny baby I was exposed to Sonic, which was as much a video game character as he was a cartoon character/comic book character. And the motion and life that was represented through those works made me want to do similar things. My friend Drew from AS has a lot of Star Wars collectables on his desk, and he's a devoted worker of his craft, so I feel like those works have a similar effect on him; inspiration and aspiration. Keep being inspired guys!
Maybe more gifs in the way? Who knows |
