Hi everyone. Still here, don't worry. While applying to places, I've been trying to figure out what it is I should focus on, and the victor seems to be CSS and HTML! Codeacademy.com will be my guide, and I should be able to create webpages or something, which is a requirement I often see. They're teaching kids in school how to code, so in short time it'll probably be basic knowledge to everyone. Don't wanna be out of the loop, amiright, fellas? I did create a little something earlier, however. If you're a fan of Overwatch and Indiana Jones I think you'll like it. It was just a quick bit of practice of Photoshop and Adobe Premier, motivated by the magic/hijinks of Overwatch. Lovin' it. Hopefully I can think of other things to animate/create, but we'll see.
Pokemon Go reflection might also happen, since I've been playing it quite a bit. And biking as well! I'll probably think of something. At the very least I'll create a gif of some sort I bet. But until then that Overwatch parody will have to do . I noticed that these blog segments are updated basically every month or so, which isn't a lot at all, but I'm already not so adept to social media self promotion. Ce la vie.

Kirby Planet Robobot. Gravity Falls. Overwatch. All 3 had robots, and I was pleased. Maybe the closer thing is that all 3 have anime? Kinda? I got some sort of stomach virus a week ago, and besides that had trouble with the voicing of the Fire Emblem short, so that has basically been shelved. But I am slowly working on the animation of a small 'lets play' bit me and a friend made. Voicing already done! Luckyyy. I also voiced a sort of otter professor for a game trailer! It was fun to do. I may have projects coming up with a bud or two from DePaul, and an opportunity to do video things as a volunteer in a local establishment.
That, and a close friend of mine I haven't seen in a year and rarely get to see will be back for 10 days, so those should be project free. This is basically a "I'm still around" kind of post. The main page only shows links to finished projects, not so much the in progress or status bits. I might add a link to help with that. Hard to believe it's already been 2 months since Adult Swim. And yet, they said it would take 2 months for them to get back to me regarding a potential job back in Atlanta again, so I suppose I should be all the more excited that that much time has passed. So what have I been up to since then?
Well, Aside from my new demo reel from about a month ago, saying bye and hi to friends that come and go, and applying to potential editing/animation jobs, things have been kind of quiet as of late. The last thing I did complete was that Smash thing I started forever ago, and only polished/made a decent animation out of a fraction of it. It was going to make a statement about Smash bros and MewTwo not being in it, but.... turns out MewTwo is in it. Whoops. I also went to ACEN and had a great time, saw a lot of really cool art from artists, got my own Deadpool mask, other things as well. What a treat. But other then THOSE, haven't really been up to a whole lot. Been playing TF2, Fire Emblem Fates, and recently watched Space Dandy. I'm in the process of creating a Fire Emblem short right now though. Can't say what it is now, but if it's finished it should be pretty good. I have friends voicing characters alongside me. That's always fun, haha Since I haven't drawn anything for it I figured I should create a graphic of some sort, even though it's a pretty simple one in itself. I definitely could be better at TF2, but the aesthetic and characterization is what makes it fun for me. If you wanna try and mess me up my Steam's M3gaDanX. I recently finally got around to watching Space Dandy. It's surprisingly existential for a Space Sci-Fi Anime Comedy. But since every episode is fairly self-contained I skipped a few that just weren't speaking to me. It was a good time though. I think I'll be watching Gravity Falls in its entirity soon. I've heard good things about it from many people, and I've seen a fw episodes of it too. It's good stuff. Maybe it'll be enough to fill the emptiness I feel from lack of Steven Universe, One Punch Man, and completion of Undertale. One last thing, Toon Boom Studio over Harmony alright I'm out!
I have a brand new reel! Took some old, some new, put it together, some music, woop! You can access it by going to the animation demo reel tab, the Vimeo site, or uh, right above here. Figured after I typed all that I should post up there.
My other reels are still up on my Vimeo page, but most of the vids there are in here anyway. I felt as though it would be good to have one solid animation reel that was both updated and complete. I might create a motion graphics-centric reel later, although it depends on how much old data i can scoop together to create a worthy compilation/reel. I might have to download some off of the web itself, as it's been years since I've touched some, and the files may have been moved around. Whoops! For now though, if you're looking for Motion Graphics work, click here or go to the Motion Graphics tab listed above. Your call. dI've never been really good at managing social apps and things, but maybe since I'm back home I'll get back on that.
But yes, believe it or not, I was gone for two months or so, working as a PAID intern (woah) for Adult Swim. More specifically, working for their live streams (yeah they do have it). Consider it their day-time programming while Cartoon Network is on the telly. If we wanted to be a bit more specific, I was working for the 4PM ET show Fish Center. A show centered on FIsh. It was an eventful 2 months. My partner in crime Tyler became Teen Tyler for recaps, Dottie the fish passed away, we created a frogger-esque video game, I made two quality animations, edited a bunch of videos drew graphics guarded a grave worked a camera was on camera played on Game Humpers bought a Cantaloupe.. what a ride. Since I was working on so much so quickly, only a handful of things are really worth showing, but even then it's kind of all over the place. Click here to see for yourself. T'was a good time, made a lot of friends, did a lot of things, and hope to see them again someday, someday *edit*-Apparently swf's of animation do not show on phones. sorry guys!- A while ago I dismissed Toon Boom Harmony as a rip-off because I didn't think you could mess with opacity and that there was no x-sheet and you couldn't create individual scenes in one project. But I discovered how to mess with opacity.. and how to find other effects. I've also been using Toon Boom Studio this whole time since there was a deal on it some time back, and was really happy with how it managed strokes and is overall designed more for animation more than Flash CS6 was . But it does tend to lag for no real reason, and I just tried making something really quick in Harmony Essentials and what you see is the result of practically 20 seconds of drawing as soon as I figured out how to hop from one frame to another (it's the < and > keys, it used to be a and s before). They're made by the same people, so it shouldn't take too long to get familiar with. I also recently got an opportunity for work in editing, but I'll have to use Avid, so I'm becoming familiar with that. Harmony, Avid, and my Rotoscope project on the side, as you can see. Characters from previous creations are supposed to drop from the sky behind me after the initial transition, but Studio is getting laggier, and laggier, and laggier... I wonder if it'll even be possible. And once I color everything? It'll be like playing Sonic Boom Co-op for the Wii U. Aka rly rly bad would not buy 2/10.
Ironically, Sonic Colors on the other hand, is a really good game. If you haven't checked out my recent video, the NextMe app pricing video, it's on the motion graphics page. It's got a more professional feel, being cleaner and less 'cartoony' then my other stuff. It actually comes off as pretty soothing. My Sonic backpack was from a friend. T'was a good gift :) After being away for 2 weeks and coming back and ordering and sitting on 2 thousand dollars of a monitor that wouldn't work and cables and adapters and Windows 10 (it's ok tho), I now have a Cintiq!
For those that don't know, a Cintiq is an extra monitor and also a drawing pad, You can see what your drawing as you draw, on the spot you put the pen down! Now that I have this working, I can get started on projects I've been putting off and practice drawing more and all sorts of things! This is legit the first drawing I made rl quick to celebrate. Awww yea. It just dawned on me how effective amiibos can be as reference. Yusssss. I think I'm gonna call her... Cinty. Like Cindy, but not. Brilliant. Hopefully I'll have news soon! Been sick for a few days actually, so there may be a notable gap of doing anything. Still kinda am sick, actually.
But! I have been recently trying to get myself back into working on videos. Besides getting a new project from NextMe soon and possible opportunities free-lance wise, am gonna try and do some personal projects. There's an idea I had for a game grumps animated for a while, and I've recently started setting up frames. I often find myself haltering my own progress by wondering if I'll ever finish, if it's not all that hilarious, if it's too long, if I should be doing something else entirely, but hey, I've recently reminded myself that if I keep asking, nothing gets done, y'know? And the funny thing is, working on stuff like that sort of has the same effect as playing a video-game I like: i feel immersed in what I see, it's all a sort of puzzle with the management of frames and layers, and there's obviously the reward of finishing (only difference being this is actually productive)... so I'm gonna try and revisit the project, working on it slowly, despite my internal arguments regarding everything. Progress!! It's actually kind of funny because I had a starbomb video in mind for a while, for Regretroid, but that's been done by so many people already that I would rather do something no one else has done. Not to say that no on'es animated the grumps before, just not necessarily the clip im doing. It'll be GREAT. I think. By the way, I've been playing Team Fortress 2, Binding of Issac, and Smash Bros 4 as of late. And I've got a part-time job as well. And there he is! A Hero named.... Hero. If we were going by Sonic rules it would be Hero the Hero. Well, Mario's full name is Mario Mario. Luigi's is Luigi Mario. So I guess Luigi is actually Mr. Mario. If he became a doctor he'd be Doctor Mario.
I'm off track I think. For those that don't know, this is a character I created for my Capstone animation project, titled 'Role Player'. According to early notes he was gonna be called 'Rebuno', but I basically gave people generic title names. So the Princess in this is called Princess, and the villain is called Dark Lord. I was trying to go for a simplistic version of Final Fantasy's youth heroes with hair that doesn't make sense, and clothes that don't really do anything. There were going to be chains on his pants , but I scrapped that since I was drawing pretty much every frame, and in those cases, less is more. His hair is peeking through the bottom and... top..? Hello everyone and anyone who's looking at this. Just doin' some reflecting, thought it'd be good for me, and maybe anyone who'd want this guy as an animator. I'm at a point in my life where I finished with college, and have a career-based internship, a part-time job, and am trying to further myself in my career. So I'm playing around with what I should be focusing on. When not making chips, that is. A lot of animation jobs ask about 3-D, so I've been thinking of teaching myself 3-d when not busy. My school gifted me with a free login to Lyndia.com, so I'd probably use that. I've been thinking of drawing everyday; I saw a post that encouraged that, so hey. I might get SAI paint soon to better that aspect of me, I herd it's gud. But until then I'm drawing in flash cuz I like the curves and i can't figure out how to draw gud in photoshop. Lookat this woahz. Just in practice. I actually liked how it looked without color but I figured I could mess around with coloring since I'm not that good at that anyway. I always focus on the drawing, and rush the colors after.
A side project that'll also be goin' on (but not as much) is that I'l be maybe MAYBE upping my game in the new smash bros. I have a bud who's no. 18 in the state in that game, and we used to go head to head in that game. So I'll be maybe MAYBE practicing, and then maybe goto a tourney or something. But maybe not. I never really show up to those anyway. Something I just realized; maybe I"ll do this blog-ish thing on tumblr instead. Since I want to draw everyday, I can create a name for myself there like artists do these days. Me an artist? ... Yeah I guess haha |
